Spanning over six minutes of deep, reflective worship, THE MARANATHA SONG centers on the Aramaic word Maranatha, which translates to Our Lord, Come. The track opens with a piercing trumpet call from Nigerian gospel icon Nathaniel Bassey, setting a solemn tone before building into an earnest cry for spiritual preparedness. While Bassey ministers strictly through his signature horn arrangements rather than vocals, South Africa’s Ntokozo Mbambo and Julia McMillan-Lamur weave seamless vocal harmonies alongside McDowell. Toward the climax, McDowell delivers a spoken word recitation from Matthew 24, punctuated by soaring trumpet flourishes that elevate the arrangement.
